You
wouldn't try to sell a car without washing it. The same principle
applies inside your home.
Scrub
the bathroom and kitchen. Wash the inside of the cabinets. Yes,
buyers will open the doors to see if there's enough space for their
own stuff. You don't want to shatter that well-maintained illusion
with dusty cabinets.
Shampoo
the carpets. If there are worn areas, buy or borrow area rugs and
runners to cover them up. Cover old worn furniture with throw-covers.
Clean
the blinds and curtains. Clean the windows. Vacuum the baseboard
heaters and the grills that cover the ceiling fans. Wash the filter
in the vent hood over the kitchen stove. Clean the fridge and oven.
Change
the furnace filter. While you're there, clean the outside of the
furnace, water-heater, a/c unit. If it's clean on the outside they
assume you've maintained the inside. Just like the car.
If
you can afford it, painting gives the best payback of any
renovation. Don't just paint upstairs. If the basement is unfinished,
paint the walls and the floor. It gives it a more finished look and
creates that well-maintained final impression before the buyers leave
to consider an offer. |
